You are only as big as your thoughts

What is the difference between you living in the 21st century and your fellow man that lived in the 1st century, or even before that? This is a question that is worthy of some reflection. I thought long and hard about this, and I started of by listing all the luxuries and amenities that we have that they didn’t.

I also pondered on how they would do when it was time to go to the dentist or when someone had to have a medical intervention of some sort. Next, I thought about pain killers, transportation, communication, entertainment and plenty of other things.

Are we more intelligent than those who lived before us? Has my brain evolved more than that of my great-great grandfather? I don’t think so. If this was the case, then we would have hundreds of Einsteins, Beethovens, Mozarts, Edisons and Galileo-like people running around today. Yes, we do have our share of intellectuals and geniuses, but they are yet to change the course of history as some of our predecessors did.

In my opinion, there is no difference between this generation, and the generations that have preceded us. If we have all what we have today, it is simply because of one thing…IMAGINATION.

The increase in technology that we have witnessed over the last decades is not due to additional resources that came from some alien planet. We as humans are endowed with an amazing capacity to create. There is nothing that exists naturally today on earth that did not exist 2000 years ago. In fact, our predecessors even had more variety in terms of plants and animals than we do today!

What’s my point? I am simply trying to say that if you can imagine it, you can conceive it. History has proven to us that this is well within our reach. The planes, the sky scrapers, the electricity, the cars, the clothes, the washing machines, the telephones, and the computers are just a few examples. All these things existed at one point in someone’s head, and were later on put on paper, and implemented.

Learning to think beyond your cultural and national limitations is a skill that can be learnt. You do not have to live in the narrow confines of your self-imposed limitations. Just because you have never succeeded at making money, doesn’t mean that you never will. If you think you have failed one too many times, then think again. Don’t take failure as proof of your limitation.

Many disqualify themselves before even starting their home business. So, when they do fail, they are in perfect agreement with themselves. If this is you, then you need to WAKE UP and snap out of it!

There is magic in your thinking. You may share similar thinking patterns with someone else, but your thoughts are unique. Don’t be limited by the time and space continuum. Instead, let your imagination to take you to places that your logic would never allow. If the former generations had not exercised their imagination like they did, you probably would not have the microwave that is now sitting in your kitchen.
