PROCRASTINATION – The root of every failure !

Here is some breaking news for you……YOU are not PERFECT! Maybe you think you got it all under control. Well, guess what? There will come a time when control will get the best of you….then what? You can’t always do things PERFECTLY. Sometimes, you are just going to have to deal with your imperfection.

Why such a harsh tone? Well, have you tried talking to people who have CHOSEN to remain failures? Note, I did not say people who failed. I am talking about people who KILLED their dreams…yes; they themselves sabotaged their own dreams, by refusing to fight procrastination.

You see, procrastination is that thing that makes you postpone till “tomorrow” an important thing that you could have today. Everybody procrastinates to a certain extent, but what I am talking about here, is when it becomes a handicap. Believe me, you don’t want to get caught in this cycle – it will destroy any and everything that you try to establish.
This is why I am going to give you some SIMPLE solutions to fight procrastination:

-                     Stop thinking that you have to do things perfectly before you take any action! Just do it! Will you be wrong? Could you fail? Will people laugh at you? WHO CARES?  Stop caring so much about what other people think!

-                     Always have a list of things that you need to get done daily and weekly.  Classify these things according to their importance or their priority
-                     Make sure the items on the list are not items you WISH you could accomplish. Write the tasks that you KNOW you can accomplish. Don’t kill your confidence…build it up, one task at a time.

-                      Respect and honor yourself. If you promise yourself to accomplish something on this list, then keep your word

-                     Start working on the items on your list that have the highest priority, and seem to be the most difficult

-                     Start working on these items at a time when you know you are in optimal form. Don’t start the list after lunch when you know you will be feeling a little lethargic. Know your optimum times and maximize them

-                     Take short breaks. Don’t try to do everything ALL at once. You will burn yourself out, and you WILL get discouraged, and put it off for later.

-                     If you know you are easily distracted, put aside every thing that is susceptible to make you lose focus on the task(s) at hand.

-                     Learn to reward yourself after a good day, or a good week’s worth of work. Don’t wait till the end to reward YOU. Be generous with yourself, and encourage yourself…OK?
You know, when I first started dealing with these issues, I was frustrated and mad with myself, because I kept putting things off ALL the time. I knew what I was doing was wrong, but I kept doing it. Why?? That’s exactly the same question I asked myself. It is only when I really started reflecting on this issue that I realized that procrastination, paralysis of analysis, fear, the lack of self-confidence  etc. were all linked in one way or the other. The conclusion of my reflection can be summed up in one word phrase… “Don’t think too much….just do it!”
