It’s that “flash Mcqueen” school bag that your son MUST have on his back, or the “Pocahontas” bed set your daughter cannot sleep without. These may all seem like cute little preferences that your children have right? I personally have nothing against these legendary characters. My point in citing them is to show you how Disney or Pixar have branded their products right into your children’s bedroom. Let’s not even mention Mcdonalds – that’s just another story!
When the kids grow up then there are other corporations that begin to rub their hands in glee. Levis, Nike, Addidas, etc know that their time has come. They know exactly who their target audience is and their derivative products make Disney and Pixar look like dwarfs!
Anyway, these examples have been given to show you how you can apply the same techniques and quadruple your profits. You see, marketing 101 shows that the average buyer will buy integrate, or buy a product or service after having been exposed to this product a NUMBER of times. In other words, people will not buy what they don’t familiar with.
Big companies like Nike, Coca-Cola and Walmart don’t brand their products per se. What they are REALLY doing is branding their names. By doing this, they create familiarity in every buyer which indirectly validates anything that they have to sell.
If you are an entrepreneur or you are looking to start your own business, you should really consider a personal branding strategy – especially if you are going to be doing business on the Internet.
The Internet is your stage. The more you make yourself seen in the most creative ways possible, the larger your audience will be. Have you never heard of these YouTube videos that get millions of views? Did you notice that the particularity of these videos was not their image or sound quality? No, what made people watch these videos over, and over again, was the ORIGINALITY.
There are no excuses for not branding yourself. If you are scared of putting your face on camera then put a voice, a sound, a cartoon….something!! You need to identify a signature mark that will tell your audience that this is you.
There are thousands of examples of personal branding amongst Internet marketers. The one that really got my attention was the guy who went by the name… “The Rich Jerk”.
This guy chose to have an obnoxious and provocative tone, and his personality was represented by a cartoon. You either like or hate him, but I find his idea very original.
The general idea behind personal branding is to establish a media presence. Once people can identify a sound, a name or a face to your product or services, they will lower their guard. Dell, today is a household name, but can you imagine the risk it was for Michael Dell to put his name behind a product that could have also flopped? His product was a hit…good for him! But imagine for a moment the opposite scenario…
