A $20 e-book here, a $10 report there and hundreds of other worthless and rehashed information products! Enough is enough!! Ok, so you produce physical products instead…well, don’t think for a second that you are exempt from what I am about to say.
When people started realizing that they could make enormous amounts of money on the Internet by creating products to sell online, people went crazy. Many people enjoyed the convenience of anonymity that the Internet provided for them. With this “shadiness” a lot of entrepreneurs began indulging in unscrupulous practices where the motto was more like “Get rich or try scamming “.
The motivation behind product creation was no longer about satisfying the customer, and over delivering beyond the customers expectations. The drive behind every product creation was more about “The launch”. Online entrepreneurs started asking themselves how they could create a buzz that would cause a buying frenzy once their products went live.
Nothing is wrong with creating a buying frenzy for a product – in fact, I find the idea brilliant. My gripe with these guys is that over the long run, the focus shifted from the product to the buzz. In some cases, the sales funnel looked more like a fleecing system than anything else.
What about the product? Well, that was just another story! Some products were so “average” that they had to be sent back. I personally bought a product like this…a $999 money making manual that I ended up returning after a few days. What made me fork out such a sum? The buzz, the sales copy, the testimonials etc. Now, don’t get me wrong, all these things are essential to a successful campaign for any product promotion. The most important thing is to at least make sure that the product or service provided is WORTHY of the buzz…don’t you think?
Product value is of the utmost importance. Entrepreneurs who are looking to make a name for themselves and their products should be asking the following questions:
1. Is there a need for my product? What exactly is this need
2. Who is my clientele? Do they have the means to afford the product/service I am offering
3. Is my product of high quality? Will it leave the customer in a state of “wow”?
4. Is it fairly priced?
5. Is it value for money?
6. Will the product/service I offer REALLY solve their problem?
7. Would I sell this product to any of my close family members?
These questions are not rules; they are simply guidelines to show you what kind of frame of mind you should be in before creating a product. The main idea is to make sure that the philosophy that motivates your product creation is one that is of the highest calibre.
Product creation is great, and it’s fun. But if you want to last a long time on Internet market, then you need to aim for quality and not quantity. Integrity, loyalty, excellence and values of this kind will catapult your business and your products to new levels.
