Are you using Facebook to promote your business?

Who would have thought that Facebook would become the most popular social networking platform on the Internet – not only there, but in the ENTIRE world?
If you talk about Facebook, you are talking about people. It is all about people from all over the world. As long as these people are regular human beings and not machines, then they will have needs, desires, and frustrations.

This is where you as a business man come in. Your business exists because you are either filling a desire, a need or solving a problem. If none of these factors existed, you would be out of business.

The rules on facebook are different from any other open market place. You need to stop looking at it as if it was a market place. This is where several business men have squandered their opportunity, and have had their reputation “fried”. In other words, they have been labelled “spammers”. Once this happens to you anywhere on the Internet, you are pretty much done. It will take a lot of savvy to dig yourself out of that grave!

People don’t want to be bothered about your latest, meanest, and life-saving opportunity. They are there to hang out, and chill with their friends. You barging in with your offer is the equivalent of being in a restaurant with your friends and having some guy walk yelling that he is selling red roses! How obnoxious!

The key ingredient for success on Facebook is authenticity. Do not try to hide behind an alias while trying to peddle your product or service. Be real, be honest and be transparent. There is no harm in indentifying yourself as a business man…it’s who you are. When you go to parties, do you blatantly announce your profession to all? No, you introduce yourself by your name, and if the discussion allows, then you mention your profession. Well, if those rules apply in parties, then know that the same etiquette should be respected in “facebook country”.

At the end of the day, you want to sell your product right? Well with facebook, you will have to exercise patience. You see, relational marketing is not “fast food”. It takes time to build a reputation. It takes time to gain the trust of your facebook buddies. However, once you have past the test of integrity and authenticity, it becomes easier to establish yourself as the leading expert.

Once you establish yourself as the leading expert on your field, based of course on the kind of conversations, input and resources you make available, then you will begin to ATTRACT people. Trends, mass movements and the like have proven a million times that people FOLLOW OTHER people. In other words, once there is a mass movement towards something, people tend to unconsciously do likewise. Imagine for a second if this mass movement is in the direction of your expertise?

So, if you are not already on facebook, then you need to set up an account, make available amazing content (videos, pictures, training manuals, free reports…etc) and constantly update and respond to your messages. Do this for about 2-3 months, and test to see what attracts people the most. There is no formula for having success on facebook. You simply have to be yourself and test different marketing techniques without every making it seem like it. Once you find the winning formula, simply scale it and take it global.
